Ten years ago, giving birth in Bigogwe, a rural area in Rwanda’s western province, Nyabihu District was filled with uncertainty. Now, Bigogwe Health Center welcomes an average of 215 deliveries each month. The staff has grown and so has the facility’s the reputation for quality care.

The new EMR (electronic medical records) system is transforming service delivery, making it faster, more accurate, and more secure in rural Rwanda.

On May 29th, Health Builders, in partnership with the Rwanda Biomedical Center and with funding from Novartis, officially introduced the Cardio-Rwanda Project in Bugesera District. This three-year initiative aims to improve prevention, early detection, and management of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) across Bugesera, Rwamagana, and Kicukiro.

Before Nkanga Health Post opened, community members had to travel 10 to 15 kilometers to access healthcare services at the nearest health centers. Now, the facility receives 325 consultations per month!

Failure to timely diagnose and respond to complications of pregnancy and childbirth, unwanted pregnancies, and lack of access to quality healthcare services and life-saving commodities are some of the leading causes of preventable maternal, neonatal and child deaths in Rwanda.
