As Rwanda continues to modernize its health system, tackling the rising burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), has become a national priority. Here’s how we’re addressing the issue with the help of our partners.

Mukamugema Desange was one of eight women who arrived at Bigogwe Health Center to deliver their babies. Despite the late hour and number of patients, the two nurses on duty attended to each woman with efficiency and care.

Ten years ago, giving birth in Bigogwe, a rural area in Rwanda’s western province, Nyabihu District was filled with uncertainty. Now, Bigogwe Health Center welcomes an average of 215 deliveries each month. The staff has grown and so has the facility’s the reputation for quality care.

The new EMR (electronic medical records) system is transforming service delivery, making it faster, more accurate, and more secure in rural Rwanda.

On May 29th, Health Builders, in partnership with the Rwanda Biomedical Center and with funding from Novartis, officially introduced the Cardio-Rwanda Project in Bugesera District. This three-year initiative aims to improve prevention, early detection, and management of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) across Bugesera, Rwamagana, and Kicukiro.

Before Nkanga Health Post opened, community members had to travel 10 to 15 kilometers to access healthcare services at the nearest health centers. Now, the facility receives 325 consultations per month!

For many in the community, Giko Health Post is their only option for accessible healthcare. Despite its small setup, the health post has made a remarkable impact!

We are pleased to report significant progress in the implementation of the EMR system (also known as eBuzima) across health centers in Rwamagana District.

Rambura Health Center has addressed operational challenges and enhanced patient care through its new data-driven decision-making process.

Health Builders hosted a workshop in Rulindo District to help health center staff improve their planning and budgeting skills and to create a joint action plan to monitor activities.

Earlier this fall, Health Builders launched a five-day training for 50 health care staff from Nyabihu health facilities on the new Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
