The transition to the cEMR system will improve the quality and reliability of health data, enable faster reporting, and support better decision-making across Rwanda's health system. More importantly, it will allow Community Health Workers to spend more time providing care, guidance, and follow-up to mothers, children, and families.

On June 19, Health Builders joined the Ministry of Health, Rwamagana District leaders, healthcare workers, community members, and partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Muyumbu Health Center expansion project. See how this project will significantly expand the heath center’s capacity!

Through practical training programs, including Helping Mothers Survive (HMS) and Helping Babies Survive (HBS), Health Builders supports front-line maternal health workers, including midwives and nurses across Rwanda,  strengthening their skills to perform the most life-saving care procedures. 

In Rwamagana District, obstetrical ultrasound services are no longer a privilege, but a core component of antenatal care for every pregnant woman. But this wasn’t always the case.  Zainabu’s experience reminds us that access to quality maternal health services is not optional. It is lifesaving.

Across Rwanda, women are at the heart of healthcare delivery, from community health workers supporting families in villages to nurses, midwives, and health facility staff providing essential, life-saving services. Their leadership is not only vital but also transformative.

Mukamugema Desange was one of eight women who arrived at Bigogwe Health Center to deliver their babies. Despite the late hour and number of patients, the two nurses on duty attended to each woman with efficiency and care.

Ten years ago, giving birth in Bigogwe, a rural area in Rwanda’s western province, Nyabihu District was filled with uncertainty. Now, Bigogwe Health Center welcomes an average of 215 deliveries each month. The staff has grown and so has the facility’s the reputation for quality care.
