As a part of Heroes Day in Rwanda, Health Builders proudly honors the dedicated Community Health Workers (CHWs) who serve as the foundation of the Rwandan healthcare system. Mukamugema Desange was one of eight women who arrived at Bigogwe Health Center to deliver their babies. Despite the late hour and number of patients, the two nurses on duty attended to each woman with efficiency and care.

Ten years ago, giving birth in Bigogwe, a rural area in Rwanda’s western province, Nyabihu District was filled with uncertainty. Now, Bigogwe Health Center welcomes an average of 215 deliveries each month. The staff has grown and so has the facility’s the reputation for quality care.
