Strengthening the Fight Against Cardiovascular Diseases in Bugesera

On May 29th, Health Builders, in partnership with the Rwanda Biomedical Center and with funding from Novartis, officially introduced the Cardio-Rwanda Project in Bugesera District.

This three-year initiative aims to improve prevention, early detection, and management of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) across Bugesera, Rwamagana, and Kicukiro, districts heavily impacted by the growing burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)  which account for over 45% of hospital deaths in Rwanda.

During the stakeholder engagement meeting, district leaders, hospital representatives, health center staff, and community health leaders came together to align on goals, discuss local challenges, and shape the implementation of this vital project.

Key issues raised included:

  • Gaps in screening equipment

  • Shortages of trained personnel

  • The need for stronger data systems

Health Builders committed to immediate action starting with a baseline assessment and tailored training to ensure health workers are fully equipped to deliver impactful care.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to saving lives through stronger, more responsive health systems. Together, we are laying the groundwork for a healthier future, one community at a time.
