Embracing Digital Health: Nurses Trained on e-Buzima to Strengthen NCD Care Across Three Districts

As Rwanda continues to modernize its health system, tackling the rising burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), has become a national priority.

CVDs are the world’s leading cause of death and account for over 45% of hospital deaths in Rwanda. In response, Health Builders, in partnership with the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) and with funding from Novartis, has launched a three-year Cardiovascular Program in Bugesera, Rwamagana, and Kicukiro districts.

The initiative focuses on two major areas:

  1. Community-based screening

  2. Health education

The initiative is designed to increase awareness and early detection and strengthened referral and case management systems to improve the continuum of care.

As part of this effort, a five-day training was held to build the capacity of frontline health professionals, specifically NCD nurses and data managers in using digital health tools like e-Buzima and the NCD Tracker. These systems support accurate patient tracking, improve data collection and analysis, and enhance overall quality of care for patients.
